Hypnosis is a completely natural state that people go into, without even realising it, several times a day. I can show you ways of relaxing deeply and harnessing the amazing power of your mind so that you feel empowered and calm through labour birth and into motherhood.
The classes I offer are relaxed and informal sessions for mums-to-be and their birthing companion. Your right to choose the type of birth you want is important and HypnoBirthing® can help whether you want to give birth at home, in a midwife-led birthing unit or in an acute hospital.
If you think you will want an epidural or other pain relief, that's fine. Whatever your birthing experience, it is going to be a better, safer experience for you and your baby if you are calm and positive. Many mums find that HypnoBirthing® enables them to cope with less pain relief than they anticipated.
This course has been developed by the HypnoBirthing™ Institute over many years to remind mums that despite the negative images and horror stories we are bombarded with, birth is a simple process that our bodies are designed to manage. My focus is on encouraging mums to tap into their own wisdom. Your body and your baby know what to do when labour starts. Knowledge is power, and Mongan Method HypnoBirthing® - founded in 1989 - is designed to teach women to trust in nature's way of birth and to relax and let their bodies do what is needed. This is information you will not receive at traditional ante-natal classes.
No-one can guarantee you a pain-free or 'perfect' birth - but HypnoBirthing® will make you more confident and calm. You and your birthing partner can attend a course any time after around the 12th-15th week of pregnancy and you will learn how to communicate with your caregivers and medical staff during labour to get the best possible outcome for you and your baby. Mums who have taken a HypnoBirthing® course are less likely to need interventions such as inductions, epidurals and Caesareans (C-sections).

Hypnosis is a skill, and like any new skill people need time to learn it and practice it. My five week course gives couples the time and space they need to practice the HypnoBirthing® techniques. They can personally experience the positive difference that natural hypnosis can make to their physical and emotional state.
Babies born to mums who have followed HypnoBirthing® techniques are more likely to be calm, settled, feed well and sleep well. Bonding between parents and babies is usually easier and breastfeeding is more successful as a result.

No woman can say exactly what is going to happen when she gives birth, but my personal experience, and the experiences of those around me, shows that preparing your mind and body will leave you feeling empowered and calm and in the best place for the best birth.
The course consists of five weekly classes, each lasting 2.5 hours. Couples or mums-to-be can come to my home in the Vale of Belvoir, or I can travel to their home. The refresher, for parents who have previously attended a Mongan Method HypnoBirthing® Course with a certified practitioner, is one session only.
Finally, for your peace of mind the HypnoBirthing (Mongan Method) is a recommended childbirth education course by The Royal College of Midwives UK.
